Installing Ubuntu 8.10 - Intrepid Ibex - on Windows
This guide will help you install Intrepid Ibex on a Windows machine without changing anything on your system including your hard drive partitions.
Downloading Wubi
Wubi is a Windows installer that allows you to install Ubuntu as any other Windows application and keep your regular Windows system. You can uninstall Ubuntu at any time. Be sure that you have plugged in your laptop and that you have an Internet connection before you begin. This will take around 10 minutes on a decent computer with a broadband connection.
Install Wubi
Once you have started the installer the fun begins:
- Pick an Installation Drive, defaults to C:
- Pick an Installation Size, I recommend at least 8 GB
- Select the Ubuntu desktop environment
- Select your language
- Enter your username and a secure password
- Finally, click the ‘Install’ button
The installer will begin downloading Ubuntu and once it is finished you will be asked to reboot. Once your computer reboots, please pay attention and select ‘Ubuntu’ in the boot loader so that the installation can continue.
You should be up and running with Ubuntu in under half an hour. The good thing is that you can uninstall whenever you want!
